UMT Lahore officially declared as Alcohol and Drug Free Campus

City District Government Lahore (CDGL) and the Youth Councils for Anti-Narcotics (YOCFAN), declared University of Management and Technology (UMT) as a drug-free campus. The main purpose of this project is to target prosperity in the Asian region.

Speaking the ceremony, Punjab Minister for Higher Education Syed Raza Ali Gillani highly esteemed the UMT management to promote a drug-free atmosphere at the university campus. He said he was pleased after examining that the UMT had achieved the status of drug-free campus among all private and public sector and institutions. He said that the Punjab government was dedicated banned the illegal and harmful drugs from the educational institutions.

After attaining the basic necessary conditions that is normally by the relevant agencies and government departments, UMT has been publically declared a drug free campus. It is the first Pakistani university who receives the drug-free campus status among all public and private sector institutions.

Giving to the UN estimate, more than 6.7 million children are addicts to drugs in the country. The drugs condition is getting more distressing in colleges and universities because everyone students, faculty, and staff are under drug attack and the consumption is increasing day-by-day. Drugs that are supply among students are normally transported to Pakistan through neighboring country Afghanistan.

From many years, the University of Management and Technology (UMT) Lahore has making effort with the government organizations to create awareness among students, faculty and staff to make the culture and society drug free.

Zulfiqar Hussain Shah, consultant Anti-Narcotics Campaign, Naveda Kitchlew, associate dean Academics, Dr Shaukat, additional secretary Education Department Punjab, Dr Rukhsana Kaleem, vice-chancellor Lahore College for Women University and deans and principals from other colleges and universities attended this ceremony.
